The journey that took about 28hrs total, went well considering we knew no Spanish. We got across the border and to the bus station easily enough as everyone at the border knew english. We were hindered at some stages during the trip though. For example, about 8 hrs into our bus ride, approximately 2am while we were sleeping, the bus pulled into a military check point. We gathered that we had to get off the bus, as everyone else had. I was then pointed in the direction of a building. Luckly Rees, who was getting off after me, was pointed to our bages that had been unloaded from the bus and he grabbed them and proceded to the building. He called me and I grabbed my backpack off him. We were indicated to push a button. Rees pushed his and got a little green man, which meant he could pass... You guessed it, I got a little red man, so I was pulled to the side, with several military people speaking Spanish at me at a million miles an hour. They went through my backpack and also asked for my passport. They noticed my american visa and said something about that, then after a couple of the military guys (which I forgot, half of which were carring huge machine guns) had approved my passport I was allowed to board my bus again.
Once we got to Los Mochis we found a hotel out of the 14 year old Lonely Planet we had, and tried to get a room for two. The hotel manager wrote out a price, which was a little expensive but Rees and I were tired and stinky and were willing to except the price. In our attempt to ask were the ATM was, the manager looked at us and crossed out the amount and rewrote it 30 peso's less. We were stoked with our good work on the bartering and eventualy found the ATM, paid them and settled into our rooms.
Headed down to the supermarket and bought some beer, one of the staff there tried to talk to us, and as per usual we had to stand there and just grin like idiots. Can't understand why mexican's don't like gringo's. Went back to our hotel room and sat down to have a beer. We put down the four beers each in about 15 mins in the hot humid heat and headed off to try our luck at a Taco stand.
